Summary

yet again a masterpiece by my favourite author。the story is a whirlwind through the galaxy and gives so many more details about the societys that live in it。 And in the middle of it， Idris， the most insane-sane Int I have ever read about and I love him to pieces！ All Characters that we get to know since book one are very excellent written， they have all their flaws and strengts， so many different characters， minds， races， all of it is just perfection！This is one of the Book series that really pl yet again a masterpiece by my favourite author。the story is a whirlwind through the galaxy and gives so many more details about the societys that live in it。 And in the middle of it， Idris， the most insane-sane Int I have ever read about and I love him to pieces！ All Characters that we get to know since book one are very excellent written， they have all their flaws and strengts， so many different characters， minds， races， all of it is just perfection！This is one of the Book series that really played like a movie in my head， and I can´t just get enough of it。I can´t wait for book three。 。。。more

meinem Schrecken habe ich festgestellt， dass der dritte Teil "Lords of Uncreation" am 2。 Mai 2023 erst auf Englisch erscheint， was bedeutet， dass es noch eine Weile dauern wird， bis der dritte Teil im Kreativität des Autors und ich bin immer wieder überrascht mit welchen Wesen und Welten er uns das nächste Mal überrascht。 Toll finde ich dabei， dass trotz aller Science-Fiction-Elemente doch auch realistische Aspekte aufgezeichnet werden， z。B。 dass man eben noch keine perfekte Übersetzung für alle Alien-Spezies gefunden hat， und es eben doch immer wieder noch Sprachbarrieren gibt， wie beispielsweise mit den Essiel oder den Naeromathi。 Auch die Helden sind keine wunderschönen， engelsgleichen， fehlerlose Wesen， sondern ein verängstigter Int mit Segelohren， eine Anwältin mit ruinierter Karriere und eine körperlich beeinträchtigte， aggressive Drohnentechnikerin。Ein weiterer Punkt， der mir sehr gut gefallen hat， war wie unvorhersehbar der Roman ist。 Immer wenn ich dachte， ich weiß wie es nun weiter geht， tauchte plötzlich mitten im Gewimmel ein neues Schiff auf und brauchte einen neuen Mitspieler ins Geschehen。 Somit kamen einige Wendungen im Roman auf mich zu， die ich absolut nicht habe kommen sehen。Die Architekten sind zurück- und das nicht nur theoretisch oder in der Zukunft， nein， wir bekommen sie live im zweiten Roman mit und sie werden als echte Gefahr vorgestellt und wir bekommen sie als Leser auch zu Gesicht und "beobachten sie nicht nur aus der Ferne"。Neben dem Kampf gegen die Architekten fokussiert sich der Roman vor allem auch um die wachsende Spannung im Weltall und bereitet das Geschehen auf einen anstehenden Krieg zwischen dem Partheon und den Kolonialen vor。 Dabei wird der Verdacht erweckt， dass HuKo， die Kommission für Humaninteressen， von Nativisten unterlaufen wird。 Ein erschreckendes Bild， was gut vor Augen führt， wie schnell Fanatiker eine Organisation unterwandern können。 Generell beschäftigt sich der Roman unterschwellig viel mit der Frage nach Richtig und Falsch， vor allem durch den Charakter Idris， der versucht einen moralischen Kompass aufrecht zu erhalten， den die anderen Charaktere manchmal aus den Augen verlieren。 Beispielsweise fragt sich Idris in wie weit sich Jemand， der in einer streng soldatischen Hierarchie aufgewachsen ist， wie die Parthenierinnen， überhaupt freiwillig für etwas melden kann。 Oder er stellt in Frage， ob die vollkommene Zerstörung der Architekten moralisch richtig ist， obwohl bekannt ist， dass diese unter Zwang handeln。 Besonders spannend fand ich hier auch die Rolle des Colvari， der zwischen den Interessen seines Auftraggebers und des Kollektivs entscheiden muss。Ich muss aber auch sagen， dass vor allem die Physik im Roman recht kompliziert wird。 Vor allem wenn Idris und andere den Unraum weiter analysieren und beobachten， bin ich schon manchmal an meine Grenzen gestoßen und hatte etwas Schwierigkeiten zu folgen。 Ohne zu viel zu verraten， musste ich vor allem die komplexen Passagen mit der Maschine zweimal lesen， um die Erkenntnisse aus dem Unraum einigermaßen zu verstehen。 Hier habe ich ein wenig Sorge， dass es im dritten Teil ggf。 noch etwas komplexer wird。Im ersten Teil wurde eine leichte Anziehung zwischen Idris und Trost angedeutet， die im zweiten Band etwas vertieft wird， jedoch ist der Roman keine Liebesgeschichte und ich bin auch froh， dass es bei Andeutungen bleibt， denn es wäre schade， wenn der Roman von einer plötzlichen Liebesgeschichte überschattet würde， da er auch so echt gut funktioniert。 Stattdessen liegt der Fokus eher auf den Entwicklungen der Charaktere， denn sowohl Trost， die sich den Kolonialen annähert， als auch Idris， der seine ganz eigene Entwicklung durchmacht， sind nicht mehr die Figuren， die vor achtzig Jahren im ersten Architektenkrieg gekämpft haben。Das einzige， was ich tatsächlich ein wenig kritisieren würde ist， dass wir am Ende etwas "auf die Folter gespannt werden"。 Gegen Ende des Romans wird eine weitere Erkenntnis errungen und anstatt diese schnell mit dem Leser zu teilen， wird die Erkenntnis nach hinten ins Geschehen verband， als wolle man sie sich für den dritten Teil aufheben， was ein wenig schade war， da man das Gefühl hatte nur ein "Häppchen" abbekommen zu haben， andererseits hatte man auf den knapp 700 Seiten schon so viel Inhalt， dass man selbstverständlich irgendwo den Cut machen musste und sich somit umso mehr auf den dritten Teil der Reihe freuen kann。FazitInsgesamt hat mir der Roman wirklich gut gefallen und ich würde trotz kleinerer， oben aufgeführter Kritikpunkte 5 von 5 Sternen vergeben。 。。。more

Tchaikovsky has created a great， intriguing， fun and sassy world with this series and I find myself recommending it to all of my friends - which is， I think the highest compliment I can pay to a book series。 I don't want to give too much in the way of spoilers， so I will suffice to say that these books are eminently readable， easy to get through， and just plain fun。 I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in science fiction and enjoys solid worldbuilding。 I'm very excited to see what h Tchaikovsky has created a great， intriguing， fun and sassy world with this series and I find myself recommending it to all of my friends - which is， I think the highest compliment I can pay to a book series。 I don't want to give too much in the way of spoilers， so I will suffice to say that these books are eminently readable， easy to get through， and just plain fun。 I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in science fiction and enjoys solid worldbuilding。 I'm very excited to see what happens next in this series！ 。。。more

Really good follow up。 Good character development from the first book。 Good pacing。 Has so many moving parts that the motivations of certain characters and entities can become one dimensional。 Still thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the third book。

Idris and his crew are searching for ways to fight against the "Architects" - giant world destroying moons seemingly on a quest to destroy all thinking life in the universe。 Throughout the process they visit different planets and have to cooperate with many different， often warring， factions。 The second book in The Final Architecture series is a bit slower than the first book。 It takes a while for the action to start and there is a lot of "cliffhangers" （e。g。 the moment Idris understands "everyt Idris and his crew are searching for ways to fight against the "Architects" - giant world destroying moons seemingly on a quest to destroy all thinking life in the universe。 Throughout the process they visit different planets and have to cooperate with many different， often warring， factions。 The second book in The Final Architecture series is a bit slower than the first book。 It takes a while for the action to start and there is a lot of "cliffhangers" （e。g。 the moment Idris understands "everything" in the middle of intense action but cannot explain any of it）。 There is a large number of characters。 The main ones are described in depth with some background stories， but for many others， we only have a very superficial understanding （e。g。 the Tothiat）。 It was a good read， but it wasn't very satisfying as I feel that the story about the real nature of the Architects and the threat is still very fuzzy and unclear despite reading through 2 books already。 。。。more

“That’s enough Tchaikovsky for a bit” thought two weeks ago Me， little remembering that six months ago Me had the paperback of this on order。 The middle book of a space opera trilogy， and even more than Shards Of Earth， Eyes Of The Void feels like it’s paying tribute to the pulpy， breathless， idea-rich space opera books I （and presumably he） grew up with。 To point up just the most obvious homage， there’s a planet that’s an affectionate riff on Harry Harrison’s Deathworld - except it’s even deadl “That’s enough Tchaikovsky for a bit” thought two weeks ago Me， little remembering that six months ago Me had the paperback of this on order。 The middle book of a space opera trilogy， and even more than Shards Of Earth， Eyes Of The Void feels like it’s paying tribute to the pulpy， breathless， idea-rich space opera books I （and presumably he） grew up with。 To point up just the most obvious homage， there’s a planet that’s an affectionate riff on Harry Harrison’s Deathworld - except it’s even deadlier。It’s not just the planets that feel like older ideas lovingly refitted， though。 The plethora of alien races， each with their own weird customs and ways of seeing the universe， recalls Larry Niven’s Known Space （and many others） - but Tchaikovsky is more interested in his invented cultures and better able to make them feel， well， alien rather than variations on a single trait。 Eyes Of The Void， taking full advantage of the legroom granted to the middle book in a trilogy， gives us more juicy info on the Hivers， the Hanni， the Naeromathi and the Essiel without letting the essential alienness of some of these species slip。“Refitted” might not be the most appropriate metaphor， though。 “Patched up” would be better， given the way the book’s settings， characters and hardware are so often broken or nearly so， hanging on after generations of repair and misuse， like the remnants of humanity。 This is exciting SF with goodies， baddies and satisfying switching of sides， but it’s also grotty as hell， its heroes often battered veterans of making do。This roughness around the edges extends （for good or ill） to the prose。 Tchaikovsky is never a flowery writer， but this is the most direct I’ve seen him， motivations and reactions often brusquely sketched out rather than taken any time over， with an informal， even impatient style which sometimes feels like a detailed pub retelling rather than a first time telling。 One upshot is that when Tchaikovsky finds a phrase he likes he’ll grab on it for a while， and if it’s unusual you’ll really notice: suddenly multiple things are being called “grunty”， or the descriptor “spectacularly unlovely” shows up repeatedly。 It’s one of the first times reading him I’ve felt his notorious workrate showing a bit on the page。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Otherwise exiting and well written sequel， but reveals almost nothing new about the main villains and is sort of just middle book in the trilogy that does not stand alone well。 Majority of themes are left open so you need to read next one to get some closure。

This is a good one。 Tchaikovsky nails dialogue in this one。 This perfectly blends Becky Chamber’s characterizations from Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and Scalzi’s dialogue。 I can’t wait for book 3！
